Charlotte NC Roundup Lawsuit Payouts
New parent company Bayer has recently announced their intention to consider a ‘financially reasonable’ settlement for current and future plaintiffs. Multidistrict litigation (MDL) allows comparable civil actions involving thousands of plaintiffs in many different districts to share evidence while considering the specific data of every case. The compensation is awarded to the individual claimants, premised on their degree of suffering.
Resolving the claims for compensation from the Bayer (and Monsanto) wide audience of users would seem to be in everyone’s best interest. Saving lives in Charlotte and saving reputations will go a long way.
Invention Leads to Roundup Weed Killer Lawsuit
It was all the way back in 1970 when Monsanto’s organic chemist, John E. Franz, discovered the herbicide ‘glyphosate.’ In return for formulating this main ingredient in Roundup, Franz was paid $5 by Monsanto (as assignee) for the glyphosate patent — and went on to log more than 840 patents during his career.
Thirty-seven years later, in 2007, Monsanto announced the establishment of the Franz Innovation Award Scholarship and in May, Franz was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame (joining innovators of radio, antibiotics, the steam engine, and frozen food). Little did Franz, or Monsanto, realize just how infamous their product would become as it plunged to a new low as a ‘cancer-causing herbicide.’
Monsanto Roundup Lawsuits are Escalating
And now, truth takes the lead as new compelling evidence refutes Monsanto’s claim that Roundup is perfectly safe for gardeners and farmers across the globe.
In February 2019 a startling meta-analysis of glyphosate-based herbicides (GBH) was accepted and published in the July-Sept 2019 issue of Mutation Research Reviews. Previous evaluations had created an ambiguous controversy around Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide, and whether its cumulative exposure increased the risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in humans.
This comprehensive meta-analysis was independently conducted by UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health; Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York; and Washington University (Seattle) Departments of Biostatistics, and Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences. The analysis encompassed a priori knowledge obtained by 5 case-control studies as well as the most recent update of the 2018 Agricultural Health Study.
The overall hypothesis from the 2019 meta-analysis is that there is a compelling link between exposures to glyphosate-based herbicides and increased risk for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
