A collision between a motorcycle and an SUV in Anderson County, SC, left one person dead on Thursday, April 22.
Officials say the crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. on SC 187, near Arnold Road. A motorcycle driven by Larry James Shaw, 52, of Anderson, was moving south on SC 187. At the same time, an SUV heading north failed to yield right of way while trying to turn left onto Arnold Road. This caused the motorcycle to strike the SUV, and Shaw was ejected in the crash.
Sadly, Shaw was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Unfortunately, fatal motorcycle wrecks are not uncommon. In 2017, there were 2,278 accidents involving motorcycles in South Carolina, leading to 117 deaths. Frequently, drivers who turn in front of motorcycles say they just didn’t see the bike due to its relatively small size. For this reason, drivers are encouraged to always “look twice and save a life.”
