A Greensboro, NC crash on Friday, May 7, resulted in the death of a motorcycle driver and the arrest of another driver.
Authorities say the accident happened around 8:49 PM at East Wendover Avenue and Gatewood Avenue. A Nissan Frontier struck a motorcycle after failing to yield the right of way. Sadly, the motorcycle’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Nissan’s driver, Clarence Meachem, 79, of Gibsonville, was charged with failing to yield right of way to a motorcycle and misdemeanor death by vehicle.
Unfortunately, failure to yield is a very common reason why passenger vehicles hit motorcycles. In some cases, a driver may fail to yield because of distraction, driving under the influence, speeding, or ignoring traffic signs. However, many drivers who hit motorcycles say they just didn’t see the bike. Due to their small size, motorcycles are easy to miss, so motorists are encouraged to “look twice and save a life.”
