A two-car collision in Lincolnton, NC, resulted in two deaths and one person being hospitalized on Friday, March 26.
Authorities say the crash happened around 1 PM on Campground Road near Pine Ridge Drive. A 2003 Chevy Avalanche was moving west on Campground Road when it crossed the centerline and struck an eastward-bound 2002 GMC Yukon head-on.
Troopers report the GMC’s driver, 73-year-old Boyce Moore, and passenger, Michael Spillars, 74, both, unfortunately, died at the scene.
The Chevy’s driver, 28-year-old Alexander Hickman, was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
There can be many causes of head-on crashes, including driving under the influence, drivers falling asleep at the wheel, distracted driving, failing to follow road signs, improper or illegal passing, or situations where a driver swerves to avoid something in the road, like an animal or debris. While head-on crashes aren’t especially common, they are frequently deadly when they do occur.
Detectives say their initial investigation suggests the Chevy driver’s reckless driving likely contributed to the crash.
