One man is dead and another has been arrested after a deadly two-car collision in Guilford County, NC, on Wednesday, July 21.
Authorities say the accident happened on U.S. 29 near N.C. 150 at 8:33 a.m. Rodney Patrick Small, 45, of Greensboro, was driving north in a car. At the same time, LaCourtnee James Fitzgerald, 29, of Reidsville, was moving south in an SUV. Small’s vehicle crossed the median and struck the SUV head-on.
Sadly, Fitzgerald died at the scene.
Small was also injured and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He was later charged with driving while license revoked, driving left of center, and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Head-on crashes can be caused by a variety of factors. The most common is distracted driving, followed by driving while tired, failing to adjust driving for weather conditions, using poor techniques when passing another vehicle, driving under the influence, and ignoring traffic lights or signs. Driving carefully and obeying traffic laws can help reduce the risk of an accident.
