ATV Rider Dead After Being Rear-Ended by SUV in Berkeley County, SC

A crash involving an ATV and an SUV sadly left one person dead and one hospitalized on Wednesday, November 4, in Berkeley County, SC.

Officers say the wreck happened just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, along Mendel Rivers Road near Looney Lane. A Kawasaki MULE ATV and a GMC Yukon were both moving south on Mendel Rivers Road, then the GMC hit the ATV from behind. The ATV’s passenger was ejected and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries.

The GMC’s driver was not hurt.

Rear-end accidents may have many causes, but often speed and following too closely are common factors. Drivers should always maintain a safe following distance in case a vehicle in front of them stops abruptly for any reason.
