How to Stay Safe at a Night Club

With the recent news coming out of Orlando, going to a night club can seem scary. However, for the most part, clubs have excellent security, and violence is almost never a concern. If you are heading out to a club, you are doing so with the intention of having fun. Sadly, the night may not turn out how you planned if you don’t keep your wits about you. With easy accessibility to alcohol and drugs, people do not always behave how they would when they are sober. Here are some tips to follow to ensure that you have a safe night out.
1. Buddy System
There is safety in numbers. You don’t have to tie yourselves to one another, but you should always stay aware of the location of at least one friend. Do your best to stay in pairs and keep an eye out for each other.
2. Watch Your Drink
Never leave your drink unattended. If you have to go to the restroom, have a trusted friend watch your glass. If you don’t have anyone to watch your drink, either finish it before you go or plan on tossing it in favor of a fresh one when you get back. Club drugs tend to be odorless and tasteless. Don’t mistakenly assume that you will “know” if someone puts something in your drink.
3. Water
Consider drinking a cup of water between every alcoholic beverage, assuming that you are consuming alcohol. Drinking water will help to keep the alcohol from hitting you as hard as it could, and water will keep you hydrated.
4. Leave It At Home
What do you really need in the club? Chances are you don’t need your entire purse. Carry only what will fit in your pocket or, ladies, in a wristlet. Large bags are easier to steal and they are easy to lose track of. If you aren’t going to use it at the club, it doesn’t need to travel with you. If you can just carry a phone, ID and cash or card, that would be ideal.
5. Riding Home
Always make plans for how you are going to get home before you leave for the club. Put the local cab company’s number in your cell phone, install the Uber app, or designate a sober driver. Make a plan to get home safely and you won’t be tempted to drive home drunk at the end of the night.
Going to a club with your friends isn’t something that should be dangerous, but it can be. When you follow the tips above, you are more likely to have the night you plan on having without injury.
